Community-based program supporting the growth and success of students in Pasadena
PARTNERSHIP FOR SUCCESS (PFS)
OUR MISSION
Partnership for Success empowers Pasadena Unified School District students to realize their full academic and personal potential through a transformative, fully funded summer enrichment experience. We foster confidence, creativity, leadership, and college and career readiness by connecting students with dynamic teaching, hands-on learning, and a supportive, inclusive community.
OUR HISTORY
Founded in 1990, Partnership for Success began as a collaborative effort between the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) and four Pasadena independent schoolsβChandler, Mayfield Junior, Polytechnic, and Westridge. The program was established to expand access to high-quality academic enrichment for promising PUSD students through a 9-year consecutive summer experience.
Over the past three decades, PFS has grown into a sustained, community-centered program that brings together dedicated educators, engaged alumni, and motivated students from diverse backgrounds. With a long-standing focus on academic rigor and college readiness, PFS has helped generations of students build the skills, confidence, and sense of belonging needed to pursue their educational goals and future aspirations.

THE STUDENT JOURNEY
HOW IT WORKS
Westridge School proudly hosts girls for their first two summers in the program, while boys of the same age attend the program at Chandler School. After these two summers of single-sex education, the students attend Mayfield Junior School in the summers before seventh and eighth grades. During and immediately after high school, students spend their summers at Polytechnic School. At each site, students learn from creative, experienced teachers from both the public and private school partners. Alumni of Partnership for Success and students and alumni from the independent school partners are eligible to work as paid teaching interns in the program. These interns work alongside the teachers in classrooms with an average of 16 students, providing one-on-one support and serving as role models for the students.

βGrowing up in an immigrant family, I had difficulty finding direction in my personal and academic life, but PFS changed that. Over nine summers, the program helped me progress academically and personally, and taught me how to navigate college applications, resumes, and financial aid. Without PFS, I wouldnβt have been able to manage such a stressful time in high school. In the end, my parents were rightβPFS changed my life, and I couldnβt be more grateful.β

βMy summers have been filled with incredible experiences and life-changing moments. When I first attended PFS, I immediately felt like a valued member of the community, met my best friend, and took classes that were both captivating and practical. As a first-generation college student, PFS provided unwavering support and the wisdom of teachers and mentors that I will always cherish. Thanks to PFS, I can confidently embrace who I am and approach the future with an inquisitive mind.β

My experience within PFS has been a highlight of my entire high school journey. Each summer, I left with tools, connections, and resources that helped me succeed, including guidance that I credit for my admission to Yale. The one-on-one support from Mr. Munroy and Ms. Rodas during the essay and college application process was invaluable. Above all, the friendships and community built through deep conversations and Friday BBQs are priceless and will always be there for me.
