At Polytechnic School, PFS Scholars (grades 9–13) engage in an academic program focused on college readiness, career exploration, and personal growth. Students take PUSD-eligible courses that strengthen skills in math, reading, writing, and critical thinking while fulfilling elective requirements. High school Scholars also participate in college tours, career speaker series, and structured college counseling that builds understanding of the admissions process and postsecondary pathways.
A unique part of the Poly experience is the elective program, where students take courses created and taught by college interns under the guidance of credentialed teachers. These classes introduce Scholars to new interests and career pathways ranging from computer programming and photography to dance and spoken word, while interns serve as near-peer mentors and role models.
In partnership with Pasadena City College, Scholars may also enroll in college credit–bearing courses while still in high school, helping build academic confidence and easing the transition to college. Together, academics, mentorship, career exposure, and early college access create a supportive environment where students gain confidence and momentum for life after high school.
