At Mayfield Junior School, PFS Scholars in 7th and 8th grade experience a dynamic, hands-on learning environment that supports both academic growth and personal development during the critical middle school years. This is students’ first PFS experience in a coeducational setting, offering meaningful opportunities to form new relationships and strengthen collaboration skills. Coursework is designed to reinforce prior academic knowledge while introducing more advanced concepts through inquiry, discussion, and project-based learning that encourages independence and critical thinking.
Students deepen their skills across science, history, mathematics, language arts, and technology. Through novels, discussions, and writing projects, students expand vocabulary and communication skills, while math instruction emphasizes applying standards-based content to real-world problems. Technology is integrated across subjects and highlighted in STEM enrichment, where students explore basic coding, game design, and digital media creation. The program at Mayfield Junior also features art, athletics, and field experiences that build community and encourage creativity, risk-taking, and teamwork. Together, these experiences help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them for success in high school and beyond.
