It is difficult to believe we have only four days left in this summer's program. Last week many students took field trips, beginning with the 9th graders heading to the Norton Simon Museum. They viewed paintings that they themselves have been copying in their studio art class. It was exciting for the students to connect with a painting on a personal level. On Tuesday the eighth graders visited the Autry Museum, and on Wednesday the tenth graders visited the Museum of Tolerance. Wednesday was a big day for field trips, as the fifth and sixth grade girls at Westridge spent that day at the Aquarium of the Pacific and the juniors and seniors were nearby, visiting Cal State Long Beach. After spending the day at a college on Wednesday, the seniors then spent the night at Claremont McKenna College on Thursday night. While on campus Thursday and Friday, they slept in a dorm, ate meals in the dining hall, took a college physics class, and spoke with CMC's Board of Trustees Chairman, David Mgrublian, who is a longtime supporter of the Partnership!
Other exciting events took place last week, including the annual Westridge Etiquette Tea and a Science Olympiad day, also at Westridge. This week Mayfield Junior students will visit Poly to see what lies ahead, and all four sites will host a Family Night on Thursday evening. Festivities at each site will wrap up the summer on Friday, and then it's farewell for 2014! Please be sure to check back here and on Facebook and Twitter for updates throughout the school year. We will have our annual community events to which all Partnership! students and families will be invited.
